In 18th-century France, amidst the decadence and depravity of the authorities, a Breton rebellion led by Pontcallec simmers, fueled by decades of social oppression. As Philippe II, Duke of Orléans, grapples with the weight of his liberal ideals, he finds himself entangled in a web of intrigue and scandal, from the gruesome autopsy of his daughter to the amputation of a prisoner, and from the cannibalistic appetites of a priest to the depraved excesses of the aristocracy.
