Biography

Jean-Pierre Marielle was a French actor born in Paris to an industrialist father and dressmaker mother in 1932. He studied at the Conservatoire National, where he befriended Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Rochefort, and won the comedy second prize in 1954. Known for his distinctive voice and versatility, Marielle appeared in over a hundred films, including "The Da Vinci Code," which cemented his status as an archetype of French gentility.
