Blessed Event

In "Blessed Event", Lee Tracy stars as Alvin Roberts, a New York gossip columnist who enjoys the power of the press and frequently reports on society people expecting a "blessed event". One such report antagonizes a gangster, leading to an attempted murder plot that Roberts manages to outsmart. As the feud between Roberts and singer Bunny Harmon (Dick Powell) escalates, their rivalry becomes a battle for control and attention in the tabloid world.
