Mother

In post-war Japan, a widowed mother struggles to sustain her family amidst poverty and hardship, as witnessed by her teenage daughter Toshiko. Despite personal losses and financial strain, Masako Fukuhara finds solace in small moments of joy, like playing with her young cousin or singing, even if only for a singing competition. As the film unfolds, it becomes clear that Toshiko's mother is determined to build a better life for herself and those she loves.
