In 1970, Pedro Olea's "The Ancines Woods" (El Bosque del Lobo) brings to life Carlos Martínez-Barbeito's 1947 novella about a peddler named Benito Freire (José Luis López Vázquez), who suffers from epileptic seizures and is rumored to be a werewolf. As the rumors spread, Benito descends into madness, and Abbot Robert (John Steiner) leads a team to investigate the series of killings. Based on the life of Spanish serial killer Manuel Blanco Romasanta, this Spanish drama/horror film explores themes of superstition and societal ignorance in rural Spain.
