Saladin

This epic film tells the story of Saladin, the first Sultan of Egypt and Syria, who leads the Muslim military campaign against the invading Christians from Europe during the Third Crusade. Based on a novel by Naguib Mahfouz, it follows Saladin's journey as he seeks to reclaim the holy lands after the slaughter of Muslim pilgrims at the hands of the Crusaders' commander Raynald of Châtillon. The film also explores themes of Pan-Arab unity and anti-colonialism, as Saladin's legacy parallels that of Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser, with a subplot involving the romance between a Christian crusader and a Muslim commander.
