Dai yûkai

A wealthy matriarch, Toshiko 'Toji' Yanagawa (Tanie Kitabayashi), is kidnapped by a gang of three, who are insulted by her proposed ransom demand. She orchestrates a strange interchange of roles with the kidnappers, convincing them to increase their demands and manipulating her family into selling off land to pay the ransom. Inspector Daigoro Igari (Ken Ogata) becomes entangled in the case due to his past charity from Toji, while one of the kidnappers falls in love with a local woman and refuses his share of the ransom, leading to an unexpected outcome.
