The Teahouse of the August Moon

In post-WWII Japan, American Captain Fisby (Glenn Ford) is sent to help build a school in the village of Tobiki on Okinawa, but the locals want him to instead build a teahouse. With the help of Sakini (Marlon Brando), an interpreter and Sakini's own efforts, Fisby becomes assimilated into the local culture and discovers that distilling sweet potato brandy is a profitable venture for the villagers. As Captain McLean (Eddie Albert) visits, Fisby finds himself winning over his commanding officer to the charms of the teahouse and its inhabitants.
