In 1776, Gil and Lana Martin settle on a small farm in the Mohawk River Valley of upstate New York, where they face threats from Loyalist and Native American attacks amidst the backdrop of the American Revolutionary War. The couple's prosperity and happiness are tested as they defend their home against enemy forces, with Gil enlisting in the militia to fight for the cause. Ultimately, a heroic dash by Gil saves the day, allowing reinforcements to arrive just in time to beat back the attackers and secure peace for the region. As the war comes to an end with the surrender of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown, the settlers look forward to their future as part of the newly independent United States.
