Il sorpasso

The film follows Roberto Mariani (Jean-Louis Trintignant), a shy law student in Rome, who embarks on a road trip through Lazio and Tuscany with Bruno Cortona (Vittorio Gassman), a charismatic but capricious man. As they travel together, Roberto is introduced to Bruno's carefree and sometimes reckless lifestyle, which challenges his own values and inhibitions. Along the way, they visit various locations, including Roberto's relatives' estate in Grosseto, where he reflects on his childhood memories and confronts the reality of Bruno's personal life, including his estranged wife Gianna (Catherine Spaak).
