The Naked Island

A small family, including Taiji Tonoyama as Senta, struggles to survive on a remote island in the Seto Inland Sea, where they farm and rely on a row boat to fetch water from a neighboring island. Their life is marked by hardship, and their limited exposure to modern society is only briefly interrupted when they sell a large fish to a restaurant and travel to Onomichi by ferry. When the older son falls ill, his father sets out to find medical help, but it's too late. The family returns to their isolated life, with no opportunity for extended grief or emotional release.
