In the haunting and atmospheric Russian drama "The Edge", a disgraced Red Army locomotive driver, Ignat, is sent to a labor camp in Siberia after destroying the fastest locomotive in the Soviet Union during a reckless race. There, he meets an abandoned steam engine trapped by a washed-out bridge, and a young German woman, Elsa, who has been surviving on her own for years, talking to the old locomotive as if it were her fiancé. As they work together to repair the steam engine and rebuild the bridge, Ignat and Elsa form an unlikely bond, but their friendship is tested when the camp's brutal leader takes Elsa away and sets them on a perilous race through the Siberian wilderness, where only one can emerge victorious.
