The Lover

In 1920s Saigon, a 15-year-old French girl engages in an illicit affair with a wealthy Chinese heir, portrayed by Tony Leung Ka-fai, who is older and from a different social class. The girl, portrayed by Jane March, claims to be 17 but is actually 15, and the relationship becomes increasingly passionate despite cultural and social barriers. The girl's family discovers their secret, leading to tension and eventually a dramatic confrontation. Decades later, the girl receives a phone call from her former lover, who confesses his enduring love for her.
