Elevator to the Gallows

In this gripping French thriller, Jeanne Moreau plays Florence Carala, a woman whose secret love affair with Julien Tavernier (Maurice Ronet) goes horribly wrong when he stages her husband's murder as a suicide. The situation escalates when Louis (Georges Poujouly), a young small-time crook and Julien's lover, steals Julien's car and becomes embroiled in a chain of events that ultimately leads to the discovery of a fake suicide attempt. As suspicion falls on both Florence and Louis, Miles Davis provides a haunting score that perfectly captures the film's dark and moody atmosphere.
