In a comedy of errors set in World War II-era South Pacific, the hapless crew of PT-73 finds themselves in a precarious predicament after backing the wrong horse in a high-stakes race. To avoid marrying their old flame to pay off debts, they concoct a harebrained scheme involving a missing thoroughbred and a smoke screen from their ship - with chaotic consequences that inadvertently capture a Japanese submarine. As Captain Binghamton and his crew dog it behind the scenes, the PT-73's bumbling antics bring about an unexpected turn of events that ultimately leads to forgiveness, repayment, and a happy ending for all involved.
