In this swashbuckling adventure, Paul Henreid stars as Laurent van Horn, a Dutch captain who escapes from prison and becomes a feared pirate leader five years later. After infiltrating the ship of Contessa Francesca Alvarado, daughter of a Mexican noble, he captures her to save another ship, and their paths become entwined in a romantic adventure that pits them against corrupt authorities and rival pirates.
