The Whales of August

Two aged sisters, Libby Strong (Bette Davis) and Sarah Webber (Lillian Gish), spend their late summer day in Maine reflecting on life and the past as they live out their lives contemplating what could have been if they had established a true closeness in their relationship. Libby is blind and reliant on Sarah, her slightly more nimble sister, as they navigate their bitterness, jealousies, and misunderstandings. Tisha Doughty (Ann Sothern) brings common sense, fun, and laughter to the sisters' conversations and revelations, while Nicholas Maranov provides a catalyst for some of their discussions and revelations.
