Biography

Lillian Gish was a prominent film star of the 1910s and 1920s, known for her work with director D.W. Griffith, particularly in Birth of a Nation (1915). She later returned to acting with notable roles in Duel in the Sun (1946) and The Night of the Hunter (1955), before closing her career with Bette Davis in The Whales of August (1987). Gish was named 17th greatest female star by the American Film Institute, awarded an Honorary Academy Award, and received the AFI Life Achievement Award.
