Intruder in the Dust

Intruder in the Dust is a 1949 American Southern Gothic film noir directed by Clarence Brown and written by Ben Maddow, based on William Faulkner's 1948 novel of the same name. The film stars David Brian as John Gavin Stevens, who reluctantly agrees to defend Lucas Beauchamp (Juano Hernandez), a local black man falsely accused of murder in rural Mississippi. As Stevens delves deeper into the case, he and Chick Mallison (Claude Jarman Jr.), Lucas's friend and confidant, uncover evidence that suggests Lucas is innocent. With the help of Miss Eunice Habersham (Elizabeth Patterson) and Sheriff Hampton (Will Geer), they work to prove Lucas's innocence and bring the real killer to justice, ultimately leading to a dramatic showdown between Lucas and his accusers.
