In the American Western film "The Wild and the Innocent" (1959), directed by Jack Sher and starring Audie Murphy and Sandra Dee, a shy mountain trapper named Yancy Hawks (Audie Murphy) befriends Rosalie Stocker (Sandra Dee), a runaway dance-hall girl. When they reach the town, Yancy falls for Marcy Howard (Joanne Dru), a local woman working at the dance hall, but gets caught up in a life-threatening situation when Rosalie's father, Ben Stocker (Strother Martin), a sly thief, tries to use her for his own gain. In the end, Yancy must protect Rosalie from her father and the corrupt Sheriff Paul Bartell (Gilbert Roland), who intends to use her for his own profit.
