Cries & Whispers

In a 19th-century mansion, Agnes (Harriet Andersson) slowly dies of uterine cancer, surrounded by her two sisters, Maria (Ingrid Thulin) and Karin (Liv Ullmann), who are more preoccupied with their own emotional struggles and marital issues than providing comfort to their dying sister. The sisters' relationship is strained, and Anna (Kari Sylwan), the devoted maid, tries to offer Agnes what comfort she can as her condition worsens.
