The Rite

A theatre troupe, led by Hans (Gunnar Björnstrand), is forced to confront their neuroses and inner psychological torments when they are summoned by Judge Abrahamson (Erik Hell) on obscenity charges. Sebastian Fisher (Anders Ek), a volatile and heavy drinker, is particularly troubled, with a complicated past that includes a affair with Thea Winkelmann (Ingrid Thulin), the widow of his former partner. As the judge probes them for clues, the trio's relationships are laid bare, revealing their insecurities and vulnerabilities.
