This lavish Japanese-Chinese coproduction tells the ancient Chinese legend of a man who falls in love with a snake goddess in human form, set against the stunning backdrop of 12th-century Hangzhou during the Song dynasty. Ryō Ikebe stars as Xu Xian, a young medicine shop apprentice whose life becomes entangled with the mysterious Bai-niang, played by Shirley Yamaguchi, and her loyal servant Xiao-qing, a green snake. As their whirlwind romance blossoms, magical conflicts arise, testing the boundaries of love, morality, and loyalty.
