During World War II, Flying Tiger triple ace Lieutenant Fred Atwell sneaks away from his famous squadron's personal appearance tour and goes incognito for several days of leave in New York City. There, he falls for photographer Joan Manion, pursuing her in the guise of a carefree drifter, and gets tangled up in a romance that involves dodging his squadronmates' attempts to unmask him, as well as a meddling publisher who wants to marry her.
