Ralph Byrd was an American actor born on April 22, 1909, in Dayton, Ohio, who rose to fame playing the iconic comic strip character Dick Tracy in serials, feature films, and television. His acting career began with a bit part in Red-Headed Woman (1932) before becoming a regular cast member in Republic Pictures' Dick Tracy serials starting in 1937. Byrd also starred in several other notable serials, including Blake of Scotland Yard and The Vigilante.
