In an Indian village, Buldeo, an elderly storyteller, regales a British memsahib with a tale of his youth, recounting how he encountered Mowgli, a feral youth raised by wolves in the jungle. As a young man, Buldeo recalls being attacked by Shere Khan, a rogue Bengal tiger, which led to the death of a man and the loss of his child. The child was adopted by grey wolves in the jungle and grew to be the wild youth Mowgli.
