Hessy Doris Lloyd was a British actress born in Liverpool on July 3, 1891. She began her professional acting career at age 16 with a repertory company in Liverpool and later debuted on stage with the Liverpool Repertory Company at 23. Her film debut came in the 1920 British silent film The Shadow Between, marking the start of a long-standing American residence that would eventually become her permanent home.
