She began her career at age 20 and went on to appear in over 60 films and hundreds of television dramas throughout her seven-decade-long career. Notable highlights include winning the Mainichi Film Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1959 and the Japan Academy Film & TV Prize for Best Actress in 1978.
