Maria Schell was a leading Austrian-Swiss actress of the 1950s and 1960s. She won the Cannes Best Actress Award in 1954 for her performance in "The Last Bridge" and the Volpi Cup at Venice Film Festival in 1956 for "Gervaise". A prominent figure in German cinema, she also appeared in notable films such as "Just a Gigolo", "99 Women", and "The Odessa File".
