Kristy McNichol is an American actress born on September 11, 1962, known for her iconic roles as Leticia "Buddy" Lawrence on the TV drama Family and Barbara Weston on the sitcom Empty Nest. She won two Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Buddy Lawrence and was nominated three times for Best Supporting Actress in a Dramatic Series. After retiring from acting in 2001 due to a bipolar disorder diagnosis, McNichol's notable film roles include Mary in "Mother of the Bride" and Patti Jean in "Two Moon Junction".
