Mildred Dorothy Dunnock was a talented American actress who began her career on stage, performing in Broadway productions such as "Life Begins" and "The Hill Between." She won critical acclaim for her role as a Welsh school teacher in "The Corn is Green" (1940) before making her film debut in the 1945 adaptation. Dunnock's notable roles included Nellie in "The Pick-up Artist" and Mrs. Gates in "Something Wild," earning two Academy Award nominations for her work.
