Biography

Tomisaburō Wakayama was a Japanese actor born Masaru Okumura on September 1, 1929, in Chiba. Raised by his kabuki performer father in Tokyo, he began studying judo at age 13 and later toured the US with the Azuma Kabuki troupe from 1952 to 1954. He transitioned to film career, becoming a martial arts star in Toho's jidaigeki movies, and is best known for his iconic role as Ogami Ittō in the Lone Wolf and Cub films.
