Henry Travers was a British-born actor who emigrated to the US in 1917 and gained stage experience on Broadway with the Theatre Guild before beginning his film career. He became known for his kindly demeanor in films such as High Sierra (1941) and The Bells of St. Mary's (1945), but it's his iconic role as Clarence Oddbody in It's a Wonderful Life (1946) that cemented his legacy. Travers received an Academy Award nomination for his supporting role in Mrs. Miniver (1942).
