Biography

Samuel John "Sam" Bottoms was an American actor and producer born in Santa Barbara, California in 1955 to a sculptor father and actress mother. At 16, he appeared in Peter Bogdanovich's The Last Picture Show after being discovered on set with his older brother Timothy. His breakout role came as surfer Lance B. Johnson in Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now. He died at 53 from glioblastoma multiforme in 2008.
