Bill Owen was a British actor and songwriter born on March 14, 1914, to a working-class family in London. He gained recognition for playing Compo Simmonite in the BBC's "Last of the Summer Wine" series from 1973 until his death in 1999. A versatile performer, he also showcased his musical talents in films like Johnny in the Clouds and The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men, and wrote songs recorded by notable artists.
