Free Solo

The film follows Alex Honnold as he attempts to become the first person to ever free solo climb Yosemite's 3,000 foot high El Capitan wall. With no ropes or safety gear, this would be arguably the greatest feat in rock climbing history. Character Sanni McCandless (Actress Sanni McCandless) accompanies Alex on some climbs and inadvertently puts him at risk when she makes a mistake during one of their descents, causing him to fall and suffer vertebral compression fractures. In preparation for his El Capitan free solo, Alex and Tommy Caldwell go climbing in Morocco, while the film crew prepares to document the climb, discussing the ethical dilemma of capturing Honnold's feat on camera and ensuring they don't put any pressure or distractions on him as he attempts the historic climb.
