Crime and Punishment

In 19th century Russia, university student Roderick Raskolnikov graduates with honors, yet lives in poverty, forcing him to pawn his heirloom watch. After meeting Sonya, a young streetwalker who receives only one ruble for her valuable Bible, Raskolnikov gives her the rubles he receives, helping her and her family. Struggling financially and feeling angry at his sister Toni's engagement to a cruel old man, Raskolnikov kills the pawnbroker and rummages through her room for valuables. Inspector Porfiry, eager to solve the case, interrogates Raskolnikov, who is eventually arrested for overdue rent instead of the murder.
