After a suicide attempt leaves John Savage's character partially crippled, he spends a lot of time at a neighborhood bar full of interesting misfits. John Savage's character develops romantic feelings for Diana Scarwid's character, a waitress who becomes the object of affection between two men, including her boyfriend and her friend Jerry Maxwell, played by David Morse. As Jerry gains fame playing basketball for the Golden State Warriors, he abandons his old friends, leading to tension and ultimately, a reunion at the bar, where Jerry reveals his insecurities and his friends come to support him.
