Jobanni no shima

The film "Jobanni no Shima" (2014) is a Japanese animated historical drama that tells the story of two young brothers, Junpei and Kanta, who live on the island of Shikotan with their grandfather and father. Following Japan's defeat in World War II, the family is forced to move to the stables while the Russian commander's family, including his daughter Tanya, move into the main house. The brothers' uncle, Hideo, asks Junpei to light signal fires at night to help him smuggle food to the mainland, while their father, Tatsuo, secretly supplies the rest of the village with foodstuff. The story follows the children's experiences during this tumultuous period, including their friendship with Tanya and their ultimate separation.
