Death of a Gunfighter

In the 1969 Western film "Death of a Gunfighter," Marshal Frank Patch (Richard Widmark) is a rugged lawman in the turn-of-the-century Texas town of Cottonwood Springs, determined to modernize the community. However, when he kills a drunken man in self-defense, the town council decides to rid themselves of him, leading to a deadly confrontation between Patch and those who wronged him, including a cowardly lawyer named Andrew Oxley (Kent Smith). Patch's marriage to Claire Quintana (Lena Horne), a brothel madame, only adds to the tension, as she prepares to leave town on the same day as the planned ambush.
