La ciociara

Cesira (Sophia Loren) is a widowed shopkeeper who, along with her 12-year-old daughter Rosetta (Eleonora Brown), flees from Rome during World War II and takes refuge in her native rural village of Ciociaria. Upon their arrival, Cesira attracts the attention of Michele (Jean-Paul Belmondo), a young local intellectual, and Rosetta forms a strong bond with him. However, their lives are soon disrupted by the horrors of war, including a traumatic gang-rape of Rosetta inside a church, which leaves her emotionally distant and traumatized.
