The Black Rose

In the 13th century, Tyrone Power plays Walter of Gurnie, a disinherited Saxon youth who joins the army of General Bayan (Orson Welles) and travels to China, becoming embroiled in intrigues in the court of Kublai Khan. Along the way, he falls in with Maryam (Cécile Aubry), a half-English woman nicknamed the "Black Rose", who has been sent as a gift to the Khan. As Walter navigates the complexities of court politics and his own feelings for Maryam, he must decide whether to return to his life in England or forge a new path in Cathay.
