Salt of the Earth

Esperanza Quintero (Rosaura Revueltas), pregnant and emotionally dominated by her husband Ramón, is a miner's wife in Zinc Town, New Mexico. Esperanza joins the strike of Mexican-American miners demanding better working conditions equal to those of white or "Anglo" miners, reversing traditional gender roles as women take their husbands' places on the picket line.
