In postwar West Germany, a lonely 60-year-old widow, Emmi, strikes up a friendship with a Moroccan migrant worker, Ali, at a bar frequented by Arab immigrants. Their connection deepens into romance, and despite the criticism of their spontaneous marriage from their family and neighbors, they face their own insecurities about their future together. As they navigate their unconventional relationship, they confront the prejudices and biases that have long isolated Ali in German society. Will their love prevail, or will the fears and doubts that threaten to tear them apart consume them?
