Madame White Snake

This lavish Japanese-Chinese coproduction tells the ancient Chinese legend of a man who falls in love with a snake goddess in human form, set against the stunning backdrop of 12th-century Hangzhou during the Song dynasty. Ryō Ikebe stars as Xu Xian, a young medicine shop apprentice whose life becomes entangled with the mysterious Bai-niang, played by Shirley Yamaguchi, and her loyal servant Xiao-qing, a green snake. As their whirlwind romance blossoms, magical conflicts arise, testing the boundaries of love, morality, and loyalty. In the end, Xu Xian chooses to follow his heart and join Bai-niang in Heaven, together transcending mortality.
