The Late Mathias Pascal

In "Feu Mathias Pascal", Ivan Mosjoukine shines as the titular character, a young man whose life is turned upside down by his marriage to Romilde and her controlling mother-in-law. After losing his family on the same day, Mathias flees to Monte Carlo, where he wins a fortune at the casino. Upon returning home, he discovers that he's been presumed dead and seizes this chance for freedom, starting anew in Rome under an assumed identity.
