In 17th-century Japan, two Jesuit priests, Sebastião Rodrigues (Andrew Garfield) and Francisco Garupe (Adam Driver), travel from Portugal to find their missing mentor and spread Catholic Christianity amidst a backdrop of persecution and religious iconoclasm under the Shogunate rule. The story follows Rodrigues' journey as he navigates the complexities of faith, betrayal, and torture, guided by his mentor Ferreira (Liam Neeson).
