Peony Lantern

On the night of the summer Obon festival, Hagiwara Shinzaburo (Kōjirō Hongō) meets a beautiful courtesan named Otsuyu (Miyoko Akaza), unaware that she's a ghost. As he becomes infatuated with her, he marries Otsuyu before Obon is over, and their union is soon disrupted by the arrival of Oyone (Michiko Ōtsuka), Otsuyu's mistress who seeks to bring back the dead woman. As the boundaries between the living and the dead blur, Shinzaburo finds himself trapped in a desperate bid for survival, with the help of his neighbor Banzo (Kō Nishimura).
