The L-Shaped Room

Leslie Caron stars as Jane Fosset, a young French woman pregnant and unmarried, who rents a room in a dingy London boarding house and befriends its odd residents. She starts an affair with fellow boarder Toby (Tom Bell), but their romance is disrupted when he learns of her pregnancy by Terry, her previous lover. As Jane navigates her options, she finds support from the other residents, including Johnny, a gay black trumpeter, played by Brock Peters.
