In 1839, Lord Nariatsu, the youngest son of the retired Shōgun, kills one of his vassal's men while hunting and is blamed for the murder by Clan Lord Abe Masayori. Retired Chief Secretary Tatewaki approaches childhood friend Sengoku Hayato, a loyal samurai, to avenge their Lord's murder. Hayato assembles a small band of loyal samurai, including Mitamura Kenshiro, Ido Daijuro, and Lady Orie, his faithful wife, who has already committed jigai in anticipation of Nariatsu's death. The eleven samurai vow to trade their lives for justice, leading to a great battle against Nariatsu's elite bodyguards, ultimately resulting in Hayato's tragic sacrifice.
